How much liquid does the BackTap hold?

The BackTap holds up to 3 gallons of your favorite mixed drinks.

That's 3 gallons of your favorite Margaritas, 14 slim cans, 5 bottles of wine or 15 poured bottles, and holds a 12 pack of 12 oz cans.

Can the BackTap be used with warm beverages?

We do not recommend using the BackTap with warm beverages.

Does the BackTap maintain carbonation?

This is not suggested. There are many outside factors that can affect carbonation and we can't guarantee the BackTap will hold in the carbonation.

Does the BackTap come with straps?

Yes, the BackTap comes with backpack straps! We also have a shoulder sling strap available for purchase if that is more your style: Backtap Shoulder Sling Accessory

Are there accessories for the BackTap?

You bet! Check out our BrüMate Cooler Accessories Page!

Is the BackTap available for purchase everywhere?

At this moment, we are only able to ship the BackTap to the Contiguous United States. We are currently exploring options for Alaska, Hawaii, outlying islands, and international shipping locations. We apologize for any inconvenience!

If you are looking to make an overseas or international BackTap purchase, you can always have the item shipped to a freight-forwarder and then shipped to your final destination. We highly recommend setting up this service prior to making a purchase!

Please note: BrüMate does not cover any additional costs for shipping a BackTap or other items through these services. Any items lost or damaged in transit by the freight-forwarder would also not be covered by BrüMate.

Do you offer BackTap replacement parts?

Yes, we do! Contact us and we'll make sure you get the right parts.

How do I switch the BackTap spout to a standard plug?

Looking to switch out your tap on your BackTap to serve cooler duty? Here’s how you can turn your BackTap into a cooler, but cooler.

Unscrew the interior threaded stopper counter-clockwise, and pull the tap out from the front of your BackTap. To clean, use a mild dish soap and warm water.

We recommend cleaning underneath the steel bucket liner of your BackTap after each use. To clean, make sure the tap or cooler plug are removed and lift the bucket up from your BackTap. Use mild dish soap and warm water to clean the bucket and interior of the BackTap.

To install the cooler plug, repeat the process in reverse. Insert the plug into the BackTap, ensuring that the gaskets provide a proper seal and are aligned. From the interior of the BackTap, screw the threaded stopper clockwise to seal the cooler plug.

Always ensure that your tap or cooler plug is tightened securely and the gaskets are aligned to avoid leaks.

Happy Tapping!

Why does my Swirl BackTap not look like the pictures?

Here's a bit more information about the swirl design, which is unique to BrüMate. When doing multiple colors in rotomolded, only parts of the cooler will have the swirl effect, and others will melt together. Each cooler is completely unique, but all swirled coolers have this to some extent.

If you’d prefer a solid cooler you can initiate an exchange: BrüMate Returns Center. You can exchange for another swirl design, but please know it may have a similar look to the BackTap you currently have.

What do I do if part of my BackTap breaks?

Contact us and we'll give you some troubleshooting tips or make sure you get the right parts if needed.

Why is my BackTap slow to release liquid?

When your BackTap pours slowly, you can speed up the flow by opening the top vent plug to release pressure.

Heads up: Mixed drinks with pulp or fruit could potentially slow down the flow of liquid.

How do I clean the BackTap?

Unscrew the tap or plug from the BackTap, then remove the stainless steel bucket out of the rotomolded cooler. Use a soft cloth and gentle dish soap to thoroughly clean the interior and exterior of the stainless steel bucket.

To clean the inside of the tap, please replace the tap and the stainless steel bucket, then run clean hot water through the tap to remove excess buildup. You can also use a pipe cleaner to remove stubborn buildup.

You may place the tap and the plug in the dishwasher for quick and easy cleaning!

How long does the BackTap hold ice?

There are many variables that can affect ice retention in your new BackTap! Some of these variables include the ice quality/quantity, type of ice (crushed, block, cube, dry), outside environment, exposure to direct sunlight, etc. There’s a lot you can do to affect the longevity of your ice. Because of these variables, as well as the lack of an industry standard for measuring ice retention, claims with a definite timeline for ice retention (x days) are generally based on ideal conditions and not definitive.

The BackTap offers rotomolded construction with closed-cell foam insulation, combined with a sealing gasket and stainless steel bucket insert. Beyond that, every other variable is out of our control, unfortunately. But if you can minimize the negative variables that affect ice retention, the BackTap will be sure to keep your ice and drinks super cold!

A small amount of ice isn’t a great indicator of how well your ice chest can retain ice due to excess air space within the cooler. Excess air space is detrimental to ice retention! To maximize retention, fill your BackTap to the top with ice and products/liquid. In addition, if the BackTap starts out warm, a portion of the ice put inside will be used to cool the interior down. Pre-cooling the BackTap results in much better results, this can be accomplished by putting around 1-2 lb of ice in the cooler around an hour before loading it up.

Best ice retention results are achieved by filling the BackTap completely with high-quality ice. If using the cooler as a drink dispenser, at least 40% of the drink mix should be ice, so make sure to make it a little stronger than normal so the dilution won't change the strength or flavor. When you mix ice with liquid, it spends a lot of its energy lowering the temperature of the drink mix to equilibrium and will melt a portion of the ice within 20-30 minutes generally. To prevent this, pre-chill your drinks with ice before putting them inside the BackTap, that way the ice inside the cooler is used to maintain the temperature and not lower it.
